Rev. Bob Feeny

Pastor

Bob was born and raised in New Hampshire, where he developed a deep and abiding love of mountains and other wild places. He is interested in the ways that our connections to particular places and communities can transform our understanding of God. Before finding the United Church of Christ, in which he is an ordained minister, Bob grew up in pentecostal traditions.  He believes that encountering the Divine is an embodied experience that involves our entire being, and that the mission of the Church should be to work for the flourishing of all people, in all aspects of their lives.

Bob’s vision for Westminster is for it to continue to be a place of refuge and resistance for people in Spokane.  He believes church should be where we find healing and renewed strength to continue working for justice.  He longs to see the church fully embrace the work of resistance, to be a place that is deeply anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and anti-misogynist.  He is passionate about church being a refuge, where queer folks are embraced for who they are, not in spite of who they are.  He believes this is the work that Jesus first called his disciples to, and the work we are still called to today.  He is deeply grounded in Christian traditions, and cherishes the wisdom of other faiths and lifeways.

Bob earned his undergraduate degree in English at Plymouth State University (NH), and a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School. When he is not in church, he spends his time running, biking, climbing, and reading. Bob and his partner, Rebecca, live in Spokane with their dog, Tali.
